You might notice the obstructed drainage when you are in shower and suddenly the water level starts rising up. How disgusting! the drainpipe is clogged . Imagine you are brushing your teeth and you notice that the sink is already half filled with water, Yuck!. The prospect of sorting stopped drainage out is not a happy one; it can be messy and time consuming. But the fact is that sooner or later, a bathroom drain pipe is going to become plugged or suffer a blockage. The best way to manage obstructed bathroom drains is to learn how to unclog them.

Why do drains get choked?.

They get stopped when dust, hair and other particles get entrapped between the pipes inside the bathroom drain pipe. The problem aggravates when bathroom products like soap, shampoo, conditioner, detergent, and the like begin to accumulate on the mass. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drains get completely plugged. So, if you are finding the water isn’t running freely through your drainpipe resulting in water rising quickly in your bath or sink chances are that you have a clog in your plumbing system.

So how can you unclog these drainage?.

You can do a number of things to unclog your bath or bathroom sink drainpipe. The first thing you will have to do is take out the stopper of the blocked sink or drainpipe. Look beneath the sink, you may have to remove a nut that secures the stopper or in some cases you can just directly pull out the stopper by the u-bend. With respect to the bathtub, the screws have to be loosened to remove the plug or the overflow plate has to be dismantled.

You may be able to see the clog clearly after the stopper has been taken out. Those greasy lumps of entangled hair and residue can be seen sticking to the sides and corners of the drainpipe. Put on a pair of gloves and extract whatever blockages comes within reach. If it is out of reach, you can use a wire clothes hanger to remove it if you can hook into the debris and pull it. This step of removing the residual clumps will remove the local blockage at your drainpipe point.

If the clog cannot be pulled out with the help of the hanger, then you should use other blockage-clearing methods. A plunger will be helpful next step in removing clogs that are out of the reach of your hand. First, cover the overflow drainpipe with a wet cloth in order to make the air suction from the plunger stronger. Now put the plunger over the drain pipe and move it up and down continuously at an even pace. As soon as you release the plunger, the trapped water may drain pipe away immediately.

Even the plunger may not clear the most dense and hardened matter inside your plumbing – that’s when you will have to deploy a chemical drainpipe clearing product. Chemicals used in these cleaners are poisonous and are to be used only when all else fails as they can affect your sanitary fixtures and pose a health risk.

Call a professional plumber if all else fails.

If you are unable to unclog the drainage even after trying all the methods, it is only advisable to call a professional plumber who has experience of drainage work. Plumbers have special equipment to clean the plugged drains speedily and effortlessly such as a drains snake, drains contractors also employ water jetting to clear blockages and cctv drainage cameras to view inside the drainpipe. It may cost you, but you will find it is worth the money once you can use your sink and shower worry free.
