The hottest repairs to decongest choked sewers in your house

What are some easy home remedies for eliminating plugged waste pipes in your bathroom? The quickest and easiest thing to use to take on the problem is your normal plunger. Using a plunger is very simple if you know how. But you should avoid applying unnecessarily too much force to the plunger when pulsating it up and down. The most effective procedure to adopt is to cover the drain completely with the bell-shaped head of the plunger and push down gently, then come up quickly and forcefully creating suction. A minor clog can be pulled up and out of the sink or drainage through the sucking action of the plunger. You may notice small overflow openings in your bath or sink and you should always remember to block these up with a wet paper towel or sponge to create maximum suction.

The other alternative to using your waste pipes plunger is to use a commercial product that uses chemicals to loosen the blockage, such as caustic soda. But it would only be recommended to resort to using chemicals after you have tried fixing the problem with a drains plunger. The solutions should be left alone for sometime as they loosen up the clog, then you should pour down hot water into the drain to clear the whole thing out. Wear proper clothes while dealing with chemicals, remember the strong chemicals can fall on your clothes and spoil them so be careful with that. After chemical flushing, you may try the plunger again – this can cause the chemical/water mix to splash back on you – eye guards are highly advisable here. Always read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully before use to make sure everything goes smoothly.

If the plunger does not work, try detaching the drain pipe trap by removing the bolts with suitable tools. Now this is going to get messy so be prepared with a towel and bucket to clean up the mess. Chrome plated fittings can be protected from scratches by taping up the teeth of the pliers or wrench; that should also give you a firmer grip on the nuts of the trap. After disassembling the P-trap, examine the trap for anything blocking the mouth of the pipe. If the plunger, the chemical or trap removal does not help, then the blockage could be much deeper in the pipework.

A deep blockage in the toilet can be loosened by a toilet auger. If on the other hand you are attempting to unclog your tub or sink you may need to use a drain pipe snake. Plumbers drain snakes have been specifically designed to enter deep into the narrow pipes. A plumbers drain snake has an adjustable handle which is used to make a drill into the blockage, it then becomes easy to remove the obstruction by pulling it upwards. Once, you have taken out the obstruction, re-fix the P-trap and rinse the drain pipe with hot water to make sure that the entire clog has been removed. Everything should be sealed properly after the whole process is over, the P-trap and pipes should also be checked for any leaks.

If the drain pipe is still obstructed after all these measures, or if the problem reoccurs chronically, employ a competent plumber or drainage contractor to fix it. If the blockage is stuck in the soil stack or the sewer service pipe has cracked either due to age or because of natural causes, then you can do nothing much expect for relying on the professional drains pipes company to solve your problem.
