In the event of multiple drains becoming clogged simultaneously in your home, you will wonder why you did not have your drains inspected, as a precaution.

What are the reasons for occurrence of clogged drains ?.

The first thing that is responsible for clogging of drains is your own carelessness. If you fail to use the drain-strainer to prevent food matter and refuse passing into the pipes from the drain, clogging of the kitchen sink’s drainpipe can occur. The drain can become clogged by the collection of this material inside it. Cooking oils and grease aggravate potential clogs by lining the pipes. The primary cause of toilet blockages is flushing amounts of toilet paper beyond what is needed down it.

Flushing items not intended for the toilet is also a main cause of clogged toilet drains. A blockage can be caused instantly or over a period of time by objects like sanitary products, baby-wipes and paper towels. Bathroom sinks, showers and bathtubs can become clogged when hair gets caught in the pipes and builds up. The sticky residue of toothpaste, gels, soaps and shampoos continously builds up inside toilet drains.

However clogging is not always due to things that you put down into the drains. Plumbing and drains problems are also caused by scale build up, tree roots, damaged pipes due to rusting and faulty drain lines.

Solutions to your blocked drainage:.

You can use certain acids and chemicals which are especially meant for clearing the clogged drains. These chemicals, however, can actually be harmful to your pipes, your fixtures, your health and the environment. Fortunately their exist some natural remedies for clearing clogged drains. Running boiling water through the drains regularly is one natural method available. Using baking soda and vinegar is another method. Just run some vinegar into the stubborn drain before sprinkling it with baking soda. Allow the mixture to settle in the drains for minimum of 15 minutes, pouring boiling water and rinsing it afterward is likely to remove the blockages.

Inspect and Prevent Instead.

Your plumbing system is very much similar to that of any automobile, machine, or tool. It is a system that requires routine examination and maintenance. You can be vigilant about what’s going on with your drains and pipes and perform part of the inspection yourself, as you are most familiar with how the drains behave. Or you can get a qualified plumber to inspect your household drains regularly and save yourself a lot of expensive hassle. Having a plumber to snake through your drainage system once an year could be a good remedial measure. If the problems persist and your drain blockages are more chronic, get the drainage snaked more often. Video inspections are another good method to check the drains regularly.

It is very important to have your drains inspected on a regular basis to prevent problems that can be not only expensive, but also very annoying.
