Sewerage back flow is risky for your health as it is unsanitary.

If you are experiencing drainage backing up into your bathroom toilets, bath tubs, and showers, it is time to telephone your plumber. Action should be taken immediately as this can effect your health, drainage is full of germs, so this problem should be resolved immediately.

While you are waiting for the plumbers van to arrive, begin to clean up the area yourself with a solution of one cup of bleaching agent to every five Imperial gallons of water. While cleaning up wear long trousers, gloves, glasses and sensible footwear and make sure that your kids, aged people and household pets do not go near the problem area. Remember to thoroughly wash your hands with soap after you are done with the cleaning up. Reduce the flushing of water into the drain to keep drainage back flow under control.

The main drainage drainpipe may have choked up, or it may just be the pipework joining the toilet and shower that is blocked. Your first concern, without worrying about the cause, should be protecting your family from harmful waste.

Clean all items and surfaces that in come in contact with the sewage, including children’s toys, using a standard cup mixture of unscented domestic bleaching agent in every five Imperial gallons of water. You will have to throw away any items that can’t be cleaned properly such as mattresses and of course any food that may have been polluted.

Use a drainage snake if sewage is backing up in the shower. It would be best for you to get 25 feet long one quarter inch snake to tackle the problem if you are not calling in a drainpipes contractor. This size will be easier to guide through the pipe works. Sometimes in a bathroom the shower trap gets plugged but at the same time the toilet remains unaffected. This is due to the fact that the toilet trap is typically about 6 inches above the floor level, whereas the typical shower drain is installed level with the floor.

If you are unable to clear this backflow yourself, you must call in professional plumbers. Plumbers will be able to find the choke and clear the backflow thoroughly as they have specialist tools and experience in this problem. It is wise to get a plumber in if you don’t have knowledge when is comes to sewage backups and other plumbing troubles.
