How would you handle a blocked drain pipe in your toilet? – Keep a plunger handy for such emergency situations. What’s involved is very clear, cover the drainpipe with the plunger and push. But the last thing you want to do is be too aggressive and pulse to quickly. To achieve the desired effect, the drainage should be totally covered with the head of the plunger and then the bell-shaped rubber must be pressed down slowly; next the handle should be pulled up fast and with good enough force to produce an effective suction. So any material that is stuck into the bathroom, sink or tub drain should come out with the upward pull on the drains plunger. overflow outlets are present in few sinks and tubs, so the outlets should be covered with a wet towel or sponger before using the plunger otherwise air can enter and reduce the impact of your actions.
An alternative for plunger is a chemical waste pipes clearance product, one that uses corrosive chemical to unclog the blockage of the drainpipe. This is usually done after you attempt to unplug your drainage using your plunger. Leave the chemical for a few minutes so that it loosens the blockage, and then use hot water to rinse out the drainpipe, taking care not to splash yourself. During the cleaning operation, chemicals and dirt may spill over your clothes, therefore as a precaution wear old clothes. If you plan to use the plunger after the application of chemical to remove the remaining debris, then eye protection is essential because the chemical laden water may back-splash on you and burn. The chemical product comes with specific manufacturer’s instructions; it is important to read and follow them carefully.
If the plunger still doesn’t make any difference after the chemical treatment you could use pliers or a pipe wrench to loosen the P-trap nuts. This will create quite a mess so be ready with a towel and pail. In order to avoid scratching the chrome surface of your pipes while at the same time getting a tight hold up them, you can cover the metal jaws of your wrench with electrical tape. Once the P-trap is removed, check the trap for any solid materials obstructing the pipe opening. If, however you cannot find any solid materials the problem is probably harder to get to, between the trap and the soil stack deep in the drainage pipework.
A toilet auger can be used for unclogging the toilet. If on the other hand you are attempting to unclog your tub or sink you may need to use a drain pipe snake. drain snakes are manufactured to be able to access the far side of your pipes as narrow as they may be. By turning the handle to dig into the blockage, you can bring the clog up and away from the drainpipe. After you have successfully removed the the blockage you should put the P-trap back into place and check if water can flow through freely. Make certain the whole thing is tightly closed and check for any leakage in the P-trap and ensure that the water flows well.
If the drain is still choked after all these measures, or if the problem reoccurs chronically, employ a competent plumber or drainage contractor to fix it. If the blockage is stuck in the soil stack or the sewer service pipe has collapsed either due to age or because of natural causes, then you can do nothing much expect for relying on the expert drains company to solve your problem.
