Clogged drainage can be troublesome for a homeowner.

Clogged drainage can be troublesome for a homeowner.

You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your toes. A clogged drain, quite disgusting and a sign of problems to come!. Imagine you are brushing your teeth and you notice that the sink is already half filled with water, Yuck!. Nobody likes to deal with blocked drainage because they are a real hassle and they give an impression of being unsanitary (because they are). But the fact is that sooner or later, a bathroom drainpipe is going to become plugged or suffer a stoppage. The most preferred approach is to prepare ahead of time for such a predicament by educating oneself on how to fix bathroom drainage when the drainpipe pipes become clogged up.

What causes a obstructed drain pipe?.

They get clogged when dust, hair and other particles get entrapped between the pipes inside the bathroom drain. The problem gets worse when the particle build up is cemented together by the residues of detergents and cleansing cosmetic items. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drainage get completely stopped. If water builds up quickly in your sink or tub when it should flow smoothly out of your drain, you may already have a plumbing clog on your hands.

How do you unblock your drains?.

Here are a few things that you can do to clean your obstructed bathroom drain and get the water running. The first step is to remove the plug whether the blocked drain pipe is in a sink or bath. In case of a bathroom sink, the plug can be removed easily with a simple pull or it might need the complex effort of unlocking the hook keeping it in place from under the sink. In the case of a bathtub, an overflow plate may have to be detached so that the entire assembly can be opened up, or there may be provision to unscrew the stopper at the drainpipe itself.

The removal of the plug may allow you to spot the cause for the blockage. Chances are you’ll see a clump of hair mixed with other materials just below the drain. Try to pull it out, as much as you can. If it is difficult to reach the area where the blockage is located, or difficult to grasp the mass, simply use a bent wire clothes hanger to help you do the job. Your drain is likely to get unclogged if you remove the soap scum, hair and other particles from it that you can see.

However, there is a chance that you will not be able to reach the blockage with the wire so you will have to try something else. A plunger will be helpful next step in removing clogs that are out of the reach of your hand. In the first step, use a wet cloth to cover the overflowing drain, and then use the plunger; this will make the suction stronger. Next, place the plunger directly over the drain pipe opening and methodically pulse the plunger up and down several times. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be immediately drained when the plunger is released.

If the plunger method fails to properly unclog your drain pipe, you may have to resort to using chemical drain pipe cleaner. It should be noted that chemical drainpipe cleaners should only be used as a final solution as the chemical substances are harmful and could damage your bathroom fixtures and sanitary fittings.

Bring in the Pros for a professional drainage solution.

If all the do-it-yourself methods fail, then call a plumber experienced in drains work to do the needful. Alternatively experienced drainage contractors like Dynorod have all the necessary equipment required to unblock the drains and inspect the interior with a CCTV inspection or drains camera. Calling in a plumber does cost money, but you can then rest assured that your drains are completely cleared and will not hassle you in the near future, a good plumber will also clean up any mess created as a bonus.
